Doubts about what goes in the bin? Discover the basic rules
Here are expert tips for recycling correctly and protecting our island.
Basic rules
Knowing and practicing these three rules will help you recycle more efficiently, ensuring materials truly have a second life.
Recycle correctly
Focus on clean Type 1 and 2 plastic bottles and containers, aluminum cans, brass, white paper, newspapers, and corrugated cardboard.
Empty, clean, and dry
Keep food and liquids out of recycling. A single dirty container can ruin an entire batch.
Don't use plastic bags
Never bag your recyclables. Place them loose directly into your bin.
SINGLE STREAM, or single stream: all recyclable materials (plastic bottles, paper, newspaper, cardboard, aluminum cans and brass) are placed together in one container directly.
Materials should be DRY and CLEAN so as not to contaminate the rest. Remove labels if possible. Do not use bags.
